Heartbreaking Update: Search for 10-Year-Old Jackson S. Georgari Ends in Tragedy

KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The heartbreaking search for 10-year-old Jackson S. Georgari ended in tragedy after the child was found unresponsive in a pond near Briarcliff Village, hours after authorities believe he sleepwalked out of his family’s home during the night.

According to the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, Jackson was last seen shortly before midnight on July 9 at his family’s residence in the Briarcliff neighborhood.

Investigators said the boy had a known history of sleepwalking, and his family believed he had unknowingly left the home while asleep.

A large search involving police officers, firefighters, drones, search-and-rescue teams, and neighboring law enforcement agencies was launched immediately after he was reported missing.

Shortly after noon, first responders located Jackson in a large pond near Briarcliff Village, about a mile from his home.

Emergency personnel immediately attempted lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced ᴅᴇᴀᴅ at the scene.

Police said there were no immediate signs of foul play, and the investigation has been turned over to the medical examiner, who will determine the official cause and manner of death.

Jackson’s family shared that this was not the first time he had sleepwalked. His sisters explained that previous incidents had occurred before the family moved to Missouri, including one in California where he was safely found by police.

They believe Jackson may have unknowingly followed a familiar route near wooded areas and ponds that he recognized from riding the school bus.

The tragedy has deeply affected the Kansas City community. Briarcliff Elementary School, where Jackson was a student, expressed condolences to his family, classmates, teachers, and friends, calling the loss unimaginable.

Neighbors also gathered near the pond, leaving flowers and remembering the young boy as investigators continued their work.

A fundraiser has since been established to help Jackson’s family with funeral and memorial expenses as loved ones begin navigating the painful days ahead.

Community members continue offering prayers and support while awaiting the medical examiner’s final findings and the conclusion of the investigation.
